Synopsis
Unbroken Smile is a documentary that follows Brittany Chrishawn’s heroic fight for justice after police officers brutally assault her, breaking her teeth and attempting to frame her. As she uncovers the truth, she exposes a hidden web of deep-seated corruption.
On May 13, 2020 Brittany and her husband were at home when officer Alejandro Carmona-Fonseca illegally parked in their driveway. During the encounter, Brittany was severely injured after the officers she called for help slammed her to the ground. They broke her teeth and caused nerve damage.
The incident became a stark example of police misconduct when the body camera footage Brittany released went viral. The footage revealed the officers contradicting themselves and fabricating reasons to arrest her, and she was charged with two felonies. Facing a potential 10-year prison sentence, Brittany was found not guilty nearly 2 years later. Followers of her story were stunned to learn she had produced an award-winning film about police brutality just a year before becoming a victim herself, leading many to suspect she was targeted because of her work.
Shortly after Brittany’s not guilty verdict, Officer Alejandro Carmona-Fonseca, who had previously parked in her driveway, was arrested for shocking crimes against the public. He is now serving an 11-year sentence in federal prison. Meanwhile, Brittany has filed a civil suit and gained public support, widely recognized as a hero for her bravery, advocacy, and resilience.
